So yesterday was moving day in Bonsal. The movers arrived about 9:30. Everything was packed and ready to go. The 53-foot trailer on the moving truck could not fit down our driveway so the hard-working moving crew brought smaller trucks and shuttled our belongings about 1.5 miles up the road. That took longer than expected with the crew of 4 from All American Moving (a branch of Mayflower out of Raleigh, NC). I had packed my i-pad and camera so here is a phone photo of Jack in the empty great room. He built this house and will build our next one! Looks sorta sad, doesn’t he? But he’s not–just tired!
A huge shout-out to our friend Lewanna who brought us KFC for lunch! That’s about all we had all day and it gave us a break as well to enjoy a last meal on our screened porch. By 9 pm, I had asked the movers to put everything that was left (10 items–mattresses, curio cabinet, dining table, etc) on the front porch so Jack and I could leave and head up to the lake with our loads. The movers will finish loading today but the buyer’s realtor needs to do another walk through so I wanted the house cleaned up before we left.
Poor Kramer (the dog) had been sitting in my car for 4 hours being sure we were not leaving him! I didn’t make him stay there, it was clearly his choice!
By 1 am we collapsed in the bed in the hangar. Today we unload our vehicles. The moving truck should arrive to our storage unit tomorrow and we can see how professionally they can stack stuff that will live there for a year!
Thanks to all our friends who had parties, gave us cards and gifts, and for your friendship! We aren’t that far away and you can stay at the Pre- B & B anytime as long as you bring a hammer or paintbrush for admission!
We are in the home stretch! We have hauled 4 trailer loads to the hangar and to Virginia storage. We are filling every box in sight with crazy things that don’t seem to even belong in a box; sponges, a dish drainer, pencils?! I am using the front dining room as a staging area for downstairs boxes. Today the realtor that is selling the house is doing a walk through to check things out for the small repairs we had to do. We have completed them, but she wants to be sure since the buyers live in Arizona. The house DOES NOT look the same as when she showed it. It’s sort or in disarray to say the least! For example, look at the dining room before and after the buyers looked at it!
The movers will be here Tuesday! Watch for more.

BEFORE
When I was a girl, I used to love watching my parents glide across the kitchen floor dancing. When we (my older sister and me) were between 9 and 12 years old, Dad would take our hands and teach us how to follow along dancing. Mom must have worked with my brother but I don’t know. He would need to recall that.
Well, Dad is no longer living, but Mom is one of the reasons we will be moving to Virginia in two short weeks! She is in assisted living in Christiansburg, VA in the memory care unit. She has a great spirit and loves everyone. She doesn’t remember how she danced with Dad. This week when I was visiting Mom in the commons area, Ellen DeGeneres came on the television. Ellen always dances at the beginning of her show. I thought it may be a spontaneous activity to get her to dance! At first she said no, then I could see a light bulb go off! She started movin’ and groovin’! She kept dancing long after I had stopped.
With Alzheimer’s, ingrained activities are the last to leave the memory. Activities such as playing the piano, playing cards, etc. are some examples. But I think that dancing was one that this week made me realize that Mom is still in there…somewhere! Hopefully we will have more visits once we get settled.
Next week, we are bringing another trailer load to the lake storage. On June 26th, the professional movers come! Our house closing (God willing!) is June 29th. We hope to leave one car in NC and fly back to sign papers in person. We want to be really sure it all comes together! Keep the good vibes coming and if you have a chance this week, Dance!!
We are loaded up to take another day trip to the lake to storage. This time we have Jack’s tools, more airplane parts, and our special helper, Destiny! We are just going up and back to day hopefully to get back to sing in church tomorrow morning.
It has been a week of packing and craigslisting. We have sold or given away a brass bed, 3 mattresses, a grandmother clock, a CD player, a fold out couch, free wood, and a trolling motor. Nobody seems interested in an HO scale or G scale train set or speakers that are 25 years old and stand almost 3 feel high! But they will come out for free stuff! People must sit by their computer and wait for the free stuff to pop up! As soon as it is posted for free, they call! Interesting.
Friends are so sweet to celebrate with us! We have enjoyed several “going away” dinners. We aren’t going far and the great thing is that Bedford Landings will have friend rates!
Only 20 more days until closing! Until then, we will keep MOVIN forward!
We had weather warnings today indicating that tomorrow would be really wet. Although we had 4-5 strong people lined for tomorrow, instead we three (Terry, Jack and I), muscled the RV-10 wings, engine, and tail cone up to the garage. That way if it is really wet, we won’t slip and slide so much. It was NOT easy! We will load it tomorrow on a trailer and haul it to the lake to storage. Watch for more but here is the video from today…
